One of the 20 guests of this year’s festival is John Dilworth the creator of the famous Courage the Cowardly Dog and the special guest of the first edition of Anim’est. He will be back with a seminar - How Animation Can Free the Subconscious Mind.

Sunday, 5th of October, 8.30 PM John Dilworth will present a special program - The Dirdy Birdy: How Animation Can Free the Subconscious Mind, where he will talk about animation as a way of exploring the subconscious and will show examples from his films created using ‘automatism’.

Dilworth, nominated for an Oscar in 1995 for his short The Chicken from Outer Space, believes that the role of animation is to help gain a deeper knowledge of oneself and that the knowledge of what is beyond normal, which has resulted in many often misunderstood animated creations, leads to the knowledge of an artwork.

John Dilworth’s films were broadcasted on CBS, HBO, Cartoon Network, MTV, Canal+ and Arte and exhibited in famous museums such as Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim Museum in New York. The animation that brought him an Academy Award nomination later became the worldwide known TV series Courage the Cowardly Dog. But his greatest succes is The Dirdy Birdy (below), which has been selected in over 50 festivals and has recieved numerous awards.
