The anim’est International Animation Film Festival, established in 2006, has become Bucharest’s most loved film festival and a recognized event on the international animation scene. The presentations, workshops, master-classes and round tables provide the perfect opportunity to get in touch with the latest creations and make contacts. Among the great names who have visited anim’est, we proudly mention Bill Plympton, Georges Schwitzgebel, Juan Pablo Zaramella, John Dilworth, Mike Reiss… and our partner festivals, animation schools and guest studios all .
The festival's programme consists of six competitive sections (international feature film, international short film, Romanian film, student film, video, Minimest), the Mozaic section – presenting the hottest animation short & feature animations in international film festivals and also special sections & retrospectives dedicated to important animation studios, directors, film schools and festivals. Workshops, masterclasses, special parallel events, concerts and parties open to the festival guests and audience. The anim'est Trophy is presented every year to one of the films competing in the short film competition.
anim'est's mission to reinvigorate and support the Romanian animation film is having an impact on the awards and participations of local animation filmmakers in international film festivals and events. Among the presently acknowledger animation directors lwho made their debut in the anim'est Romanian film competition are Marius Pandele, Liviu Barbulescu, Cecilia Felmeri, Andreea Bogdan and Bertoti Attila.
Starting with the festival's fourth edition (2009), anim'est has also included a unique event in the Romanian festival circuit: Creepy Animation Night – a nightful of provokative, bizarre and horror animation shorts screenings accompanied by a live musical act in the festival's main venue – Patria Cinema.
Beginning with 2011 anim'est also takes place in Chișinău and beginning with 2014 anim'est is also hosted in the summer in Brașov.
