Massive Attack and The Editors in the Music Video & Advertising Competition

Music videos from important names of the international music scene are batteling it out for this year’s Anim’est Best Music Video Award, offered by MTV. 12 other videos are competing for the Special Mention offered to the Best Advertising Spot. The members of this year’s Music Video & Advertising section’s jury are designer Cristian „Canu” Banu, senior copywriter for Ogilvy, Corina Bompa and music composer, producer and visual artist Cristian Stanciu „Matze”.

Hit animated videos, like the futuristic-goth Splitting the Atom from Massive Attack, directed by French Edouard Salier; the fun Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool from The Editors, directed by The Lemnox Brothers, or the electrifying My Turn from Basement Jaxx and The Lightspeed Champions, by Tomek Ducki, are some of the 28 titles from 13 countries selected to compete for Best Music Video. Romania is going to be represented by Anton Octavian, one of Anim’est’s regulars in the competition, the director of the September’s video for British band The Mantra ATSMM and by Dragos Bardac, who directed Life Buoy for the famous local Indie rock band, The Pixels.

The Advertising competition holds a selection of 15 advertising spots from 8 countries. Some of them are: Aqua Hour from reknowned Romanian animator Matei Branea, former jury member for Anim’est 2008; cult-trilogy Scrabble (Scrabble Hula, Scrabble Sumo, Scrabble Yoga) from French duo Irina Dakeva and Clement Dozier or the surprizing Moits from Andreea Dobrota (Romania, 2009)

Just like every year, three public figures from the advertising field and Romanian underground music scene will be judging the short films in the Video & Advertising competition.

Cristian „Canu” Banu is a co-founding partner and Lead Designer for No Noise design studio. Before setting up the studio in 2004, he was a senior Art Director for 8 years at several local and multinational advertising agencies in Bucharest. He’s been supporting Anim’est since the very first edition (2006), as the designer of the logo that was to establish the name for the most important animation film festival in Romania, the precious sheep.

Corina Bompa is part of the Ogilvy team, as senior copywriter. Licenced both in Foreign Languages as in Public Relations & Advertising, she is the owner of numerous awards ofered by important advertising festivals like Portoroz, Golder Hammer or Adprint. Starting 2008, she signs the official Anim’est advertising spot and the ad campaigns for the festival.

Cristian Stanciu Matze entered the Romanian electronic music market as early as 1992, continuing, in 1996, as co-founder of Yama Studios, production company where he won numerous national and international awards for the singles he produced. NSK is the band he started in 1998, together with Electric Brother and Dj Vasile. The two played live shows sharing the stage with big electro scene names- Faithless, Slacker, Weird Beats, Collective, Dj Matt. On November 2003, partnering up with Dan Handrabur, Dj Vasile, Vlaicu Golcea,

Mitos Micluseanu, Matesan, he founds Shukar Collective, a revolutionary project excploring traditional rythms of the bear leaders through digital modern sampling techniques.
