SHANE ACKER

Shane Acker (USA) is a film director, screenwriter, animator and cinematographer best known for his animated feature “9”, which is based on his 2005 Student Academy Award-winning film of the same title. In addition to being a director, Shane is an animator and worked on several productions, including Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”.

Shane Acker has a multidisciplinary background, studying architecture for several years before becoming a filmmaker. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Florida , then  a Masters Degree in architecture from the UCLA and a MFA in animation. Shane’s first film “The Hangnail” (2000) was a 2D animated film, but he transitioned to CG to direct his next film “The Astounding Talents of Mr. Grenade”.

Shane currently resides in Los Angeles, where he freelances as a 3D artist, director and instructor, while actively developing his own independent films.

Back in 2005, Shane released the short film “9” (2005,11’- nominated for an Oscar), about a living rag doll trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, a visionary work full of gorgeous imagery and creepy creatures.

In the feature length version of “9” (2009, 79’) , after an apocalyptic war between human and machines, the world is completely destroyed and without human life. A rag doll, 9, awakes without voice and finds a weird object in the middle of the debris that he brings with him. While walking through the ruins, 9 is attacked by a machine called Beast but he is saved by another doll called 2 that fixes his voice. 2 brings 9 to meet his hidden community, led by the coward 1.

Shane Acker Masterlass “From School to Hollywood” is organized with the support of the American Cultural Center.
