Cartoon Cocktail

Cartoon Cocktail is a film club organised by Animest, through which we want to create a relaxed space for both animation professionals and enthusiasts from the general public to meet and talk.

Each edition we delight in a selection of eye-candy short films, mixed by our special guests. After the films we stay for a drink or two and talk about the movies.

Past editions:

A close friend of the festival, Luiz took on the mission of mixing a selection of short films that would captivate from the very first minutes.

The host of this edition was Alina Gheorghe, whose short film – Glass Fingers – was selected at the most important animation festival in Europe – the Annecy Festival, in the Graduation Films category. The short film also received a special mention from the Animest jury in 2022.

Katarzyna Gromadza and Raluca Mănescu, both mentors at SYYA - Sisterhood of Young Animation Auteurs, put together a selection of films made by directing duos. Why duos? Because it perfectly expresses what the SYAA team does best — working together to get things done.

The host of this edition was Dan Panaitescu – animator, art director and animation director, as well as a Pitch, Please! mentor. After the screening, Dan was joined by Cristian Pascariu – screenwriter, director & Pitch, Please! mentor – for a short presentation of the animation project competition for Romania and the Republic of Moldova, Pitch, Please!. The workshop gives creators the chance to pitch their ideas to a professional jury and the opportunity to access other international animation workshops.

We kicked off the holiday season with a selection of funny and colourful short films, Animest style.

A mix of short films exploring themes of identity and expression within the LGBTQIA+ community, with the sensitivity and creativity that animation uniquely offers. The event was part of Bucharest Pride week and was supported by Asociația Accept.

A selection of ten bold short films by contemporary Austrian women directors, showcasing cinema's potential to uncover new spaces and possibilities and to shift perspectives. Curated by Waltraud Grausgruber, director and co-founder of the Tricky Women/Tricky Realities festival. The event was part of the programme of the third edition of the Sisterhood of Young Animation Auteurs (SYAA).

A short film mix curated by Anna Florea and Laura Pop, as part of the Animation Incubator Summer School programme in Timișoara. Edition supported by HEI and EUNIC Romania, hosted at Bastionul 1.

An eclectic selection of films that have influenced both artists, followed by a conversation about cinema, animation and their journey to the prestigious Annecy Festival, where both will be presenting their projects.
