GoCritic! x Animest 2023

GoCritic! 2023: A Platform for Emerging Film Critics at Animest

 

The 2023 edition of GoCritic!, the workshop aimed at fostering the skills of emerging film critics, took place during the Animest from October 6th to 15th. Under the guidance of Vladan Petkovic, journalist, film critic, and festival programmer, the workshop helped participants refine their critical voices and engage with animated films on a deeper level.

This year’s edition saw ten articles produced by the participants, covering a variety of animated works. Here are the five critics who took part, along with a highlight of their contributions:

  • Claudia Alexandru wrote about Lonely Castle in the Mirror by Keiichi Hara, a film exploring themes of solitude and adolescence, as well as its screening at Animest 2023. Her articles can be found on Cineuropa.
  • One of Amarsanaa Battulga's articles discusses A Crab in the Pool, a film about grief and loss, analyzing the sensitivity of directors Alexandra Myotte and Jean-Sébastien Hamel. Details can be found here.
  • One of Carlota Ezquiaga's articles reviews the Animest international competition, focusing on three animated films dealing with sexuality. Details can be found here.
  • Yulia Neproshina wrote about three films from Animest’s second short film block, exploring identity through the eyes of children. Details can be found here.
