Reality of imagination or imagination of the real

The short - documentary film in Iran is as old as the history of Iranian cinema, which starts in 1900. But it is in the 1960s when this cinema presents itself seriously through the films of some prestigious filmmakers After the Islamic revolution in 1979, the independent film (short and documentary film) is lucky to receive the support of the new government, thanks to their cultural policy against releasing Hollywood commercial movies in theaters. Thus, Iranian Young Cinema Society (IYCS established in 1983) and Documentary & Experimental Film Center (DEFC established in 1986) take the responsibility of discovering and training the new talented young filmmakers.
 From 1997 till now, the new wave of Iranian short film has changed the situation positively for more young people to make their films. This has allowed the produc- tion of more than 1000 short fiction, documentary, experimental and animation films. The next generation of Iranian cineastes comes out from this stream, pre- senting the most successful young film makers such as: Bahman GHOBADI, Alireza AMINI, Vahid MOUSAIAN, Rahbar GHANBARI, Reza SOBHANI, Darius YARI, Mohsen AMIRYOUSEFI, Bijan MIRBAGHERI, Mehdi JAFARI, Mehrdad OSKOUIEE, Mehdi KARAMPOUR, Faribourz KAMKARI and Alimohammad GHASEMI. It is the works of this generation you will discover in this festival. Most of these films are neither fiction, nor entirely documentary. Iranian film is strongly marked by the reality approach, the borderline between reality and imagination. By watching these films, you will arrive in a far world, full of metaphors and human feeling, pains and love.
 Profound and poetic, these films go beyond the limits of a mirror which reflects the society. Sometimes they are sad, but in the same time, they bring hope, because they are symbols of a young vivid and multicultural society. A traditional society with an old and rich past, passing through an important era: the era of transition.
