LOVING VINCENT opens this year's edition of Anim'est

Along with the selection of titles relevant to the theme of this year's edition, Anim'est brings to Bucharest, in the good tradition of the festival, the most important recent animated films. The animated feature that opens this year's edition is the long-awaited Loving Vincent, a British-Polish co-production directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman. Based on the life and strange death of one of the most revered modern artists, the film has won, among other things, the Audience Award at the Annecy Festival this year. Loving Vincent brings on the cinema screen the artist's visual universe, works that have become iconic and have changed the face of art. The making of this film required considerable effort. At first, real footage involving actors was filmed, then each of the 62450 frames was hand-painted in oil. Later, the animation was completed by way of rotoscoping, the final product being a blend between live-action shooting and painting. 125 painters from all over the world worked for this film, in studios located in Poland and Greece. Filming took place in studios in London and Wroclaw. It took the team of painters and animators a year to shape Van Gogh's work into cinematic form. With such creative effort and such a large and dedicated team, Loving Vincent is one of the most anticipated animated films of this decade.

The twelfth edition of the Anim'est International Animation Film Festival will be held from September 29th to October 8th  2017 at Eforie Cinema, Elvire Popesco Cinema, CINETIC Center, Expirat - Carol Halls and Apollo111. Tickets will soon be available on www.eventbook.ro and will also be available at Eforie Cinema and Elvire Popesco Cinema throughout the festival.

Anim'est is the only festival in Romania that submits the film that won the Festival Trophy on the list of films selected for the Oscars, in the animated short film section.
