Masterclass Michel Ocelot

Saturday, October 12th, at 13:30 at Elvira Popescu cinema, Michel Ocelot will present the masterclass ”A Life in Animation”.

French writer, director, animator and graphic designer, and a former president of the International Animated Film Association, Michel Ocelot began working in animation after studying arts decorative arts, quickly gaining international acclaim. He attended prestigious institutions such as the School of Fine Arts in Angers, Superior National School of Decorative Arts in Paris and the Art Institute in Los Angeles. All his works are based on his own scripts and graphics and employ a variety of animation techniques, almost exclusively within the genres of fairy tales and fantasy. Medieval princesses, fairies, witches, Ocelot’s films send viewers on journeys into magical realms, offering imaginative stories. The director was first known for Kirikou and the Witch, the first feature film of his career, awarded the prize for Best Animation at Annecy in 1999 and Best Animated Feature Film at the 2002 British Awards. It was followed by Princes and Princesses, a selection of ancient stories rendered by silhouettes and Kirikou and the Wild Animals. He finished his 4th feature film in 2006, Azur and Asmar, presented at the Cannes Film Festival, in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, and in 2011, Tales of the Night was selected in the competition of the 61st International Film Festival in Berlin. His latest feature film, Kirikou and the Men and Women, was nominated for the 2013 Cesar Awards. Free entrance.
