Pitch, Please! - 3rd edition
The 2021 edition of Pitch, Please!, a workshop-competition initiated by Asociația Animest, was designed to support local animated film production. Participation was free, and projects were selected by a jury composed of festival organizers and workshop trainers. The winner received an award: participation at the CEE Animation Forum to present their project in the out of competition section.
Five finalists participated in four days of intensive preparation, which included script development, character design, and pitching techniques. On the fifth day, the projects were presented to the public and evaluated by an international jury:
- The Sink – Directed by Ioana Popescu
- BEAN – Directed by Dragoș Andrei Dobai, Merve Dobai (Special Mention)
- Petite Book Anime – Directed by Anca Manolache, Adele Coulloudon, Oana Vasile
- Balazs Orban: The Collector of Legends – Directed by Szabolcs Fazakas, Hunor Balint (Winner project)
- Bebițochis – Directed by Felicia Ionescu
The participants were guided by:
- Dan Panaitescu – Animator and 2D animation director, well-known for his successful collaborations with Anca Damian on animated feature films since 2010.
- Cristian Pascariu – Director and screenwriter, internationally recognized for his short films and the documentary NASTY (co-directed in 2024), presented at the Cannes Film Festival.
The projects were assessed by an international jury that included:
- Saša Bach – Festival producer and project manager in animation, involved in organizing the Animateka and StopTrik festivals and leading the CEE Animation Workshop.
- Ana Drăghici – Cinematographer from Bucharest with a 15-year career, Gopo Awards nominee, and known for films like Two Lottery Tickets and The Story of a Summer Lover.
- Martin Vandas – Oscar nominated producer for Daughter by Daria Kashcheeva, with an impressive career in animation production and membership in the European Film Academy and FAMU in Prague.
