Pitch, Please! - 5th edition

Pitch, Please! 5th Edition

The 2023 edition of Pitch, Please! continued its tradition of supporting and developing emerging animation talents from Romania and Moldova. Organized by Asociația Animest with support from CEE Animation, the event provided creators with the opportunity to showcase their projects and receive feedback from mentors.

The winning project, The Shoebox, directed by Cristina Pîrvu, was named the winner of the 2023 edition and received dual accreditation for director and producer at the Rise & Shine Animation Pitching Lab 2024, an international workshop for animated film project development. Sorry, I’m Late and Stejărelul received special mentions, and all participating projects were awarded passes to Animafest Zagreb 2024!

Until September 15, 2023, animation creators had the chance to submit their projects, and five of them were selected for four days of intensive preparation. The selected projects were:

  • It’s Ok Not to Be Ok – Directed by Maria Sărățeanu
  • Paradis Murdar – Directed by Alina Gheorghe
  • The Shoebox – Directed by Cristina Pîrvu (winning project)
  • Sorry, I’m Late – Directed by Eugen Munteanu (special mention)
  • Stejărelul – Directed by Nicoleta Miron and Liana Chiriță (special mention)

 

The preparation focused on script development, character design, and pitching techniques, guided by trainers:

  • Dan Panaitescu : Animator and 2D animation director, recognized for his collaboration with Anca Damian on animated feature films since 2010.
  • Cristian Pascariu : Director and screenwriter, internationally recognized for his short films and the documentary ‘NASTY' (2024) co-directed and featured at the Cannes Film Festival.

 

The projects were presented on October 15, 2023, and evaluated by an international jury:

  • Dave King : Artist and screenwriter, working for Marvel, DC Comics, and Cartoon Network, and running the production company, Dave King Creative.
  • Matea Milić : Producer at Animafest Zagreb, responsible for fundraising and coordinating animation festivals (Hulahop).
  • Bastien Martin : Manager and producer at Camera-etc, with experience in animation and documentaries.
