Re:Animating Bucharest
The ninth edition of Anim'est is accompanied by the very first in-house communication campaign in the history of the festival. Re:Animating Bucharest is a concept that has grown along with the development of the festival’s educational platform, and the spectacular evolution in digital media related industries in recent years.
The trailer for the ninth edition of the festival and the core of this year’s campaign, designed to revive the numb facets of urban culture through animation, has a special story of its own: for the first time, it was created during the intense animation workshop Animation Worksheep. Presented by Anim'est, the workshop reached its fourth edition this spring. For three weeks, in an environment that simulated the work in a real animation studio, a group of 22 people consisting of trainers, participants and technical team took part in the creation of an animated film that became this year's festival trailer. The official visual concept, also a product of Animation Worksheep, complements the story: the famous Anim’est sheep take to the streets and “electrify” the city as the month of October begins.
"We are pleased that for the first time, we have a trailer which was made exclusively in-house and which combines a great deal of of animation techniques: stop motion, cut-out, 3D, cartoon animation. We are even more pleased that this product came about thanks to the creative and technical contribution of our wonderful Worksheep students, the greatest trainers and part of the Anim'est team. It's more than a trailer; it is the promise of a great future. Our sheep is stronger and more active than ever!"says Vlad Ilicevici, the executive director of the festival.
This year's campaign has united several companies and organizations in the common endeavor to revive the city. A notable presence at the ninth edition is that of Les Ateliers Nomad studio which will transform, through video mapping projections, the facades of some of the buildings where the festival takes place this year, while Senior Hyper agency, a closer collaborator of the festival, has designed and implemented interactive applications for mobile phones and Facebook which have the same purpose, that of presenting alternative scenarios of a more colorful and joyful Bucharest.
Anim'est present Re:Animation Hub, a new festival location
A series of screenings that complement the Cinema Elvira Popescu and Cinema Studio programmes, workshops, master-classes, exhibitions and special installations will help re-animate the new Anim’est location, called Re:Animation Hub - Carol 53. It is also the place where, thanks to Jameson’s support, all the festival parties, themed music and film nights known as Creepy Animation Night, or Animusic Night will take place, as well as other new concept events to be announced soon which will bring several fresh artists from the electronic / techno / experimental music scene.
