The Czech Centre is invited with a selection of the best recent and historic animation works. While the roots of the Czech animation reach back to the mid-1920s, cartoon and puppet animation asserted after World War Il. The Czech School gained in definition, becoming a phenomenon whose exponents' exploitation of both form and content evinced a force of poetic imagination that echoed the long-standing traditions of Czech art. Different generations of talented artists, directors, animators and musicians worked on the movies in the presented section.

Do you know what a fimfarum is? Fimfarum is a magic cane, the only one in the world! However, it is also the name of a book full of gentle fairy tales about various human weaknesses and virtues, as well as a range of successful puppet films to entertain and educate filmgoers of all ages. In short, it is an encyclopedia of stories, which happen from time to time, every other day, even some very very peculiar ones.

Aurel Klimt is a producer, director, screenwriter and editor. Vlasta Pospisilova is a director and animator.

A collection of stories: "Three Hunchbacks from Damascus" evokes the atmosphere of the Far East and an oriental narrative style; "Tom Thumb", a picturesque telling full of reversals and adventure; "Three Sisters and One Ring" employs a rustic instruction manual ala "The Decameron"--how to fool a husband out of a ring; "Why, Uncle, Is the Sea Salty?" offers to explain a natural phenomenon, and to relive the age-old fairy tale about envy and devils.

Mr Seman is single, middle-aged man living in Prague. His pastime is to peer out the window of his ground floor apartment in Prague striking up conversations with passers by, looking into waste bins that line the pavement and at other times talking to himself. This first feature film by animator Maria Prochazkova was inspired by a real situation.
Maria Prochazkova graduated from grammar school in 1993 and has been student of animated film at Prague Film and Television Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU). In 1998 she graduated as animation director. She writes and directs short animated films, music videos and commercials.
