Two nights of bizarre and horror animation at Anim’est

Two nights of bizarre and horror animation at Anim’est

Creepy Animation Night - 7th Edition

The most beloved thematic night of Anim’est festival traditionally proves at each festival edition that animation can be exciting for all ages and will be back this autumn at Patria Cinema. Each year, Creepy Animation Night brings together more than 1,000 over 18 spectators in the festival theatres. A new selection of animated short films more frightening and out of the box than ever will await the least faint-hearted animation fans on October 9th at 11 p.m. at Patria Cinema.

Creepy Animation Night, a unique event in the Romanian film landscape, will once more disturb and put to the test the hearts of the audience with 200 minutes of animated shorts coming from countries such as Mexico, Australia, the United States, Italy, Spain and for the first time this year, Romania.

The animated short films screening will be interlaced with a live show by Dirty Granny Tales, a band formed in Athens in 2006 that has developed a novel musical style, dark theatrical music. The Greek band’s complex shows, with their Tim Burton like storyline, borrow from the chaos and irony of the Tiger Lillies and are inspired by Diamanda Galás’ scenic presence, by the sterile visual universe of the avant-garde The Residents and by the sounds of famous Greek composer Manos Hatzidakis, which qualities have made them renowned, from local packed out concert rooms to all Europe. Dirty Granny Tales is coming to Bucharest to conquer Anim’est audience with the show Didi’s Son, a hybrid of music, animation, video and puppet theatre, about a world where everything is reversed and living beings become subservient to puppets. The dark atmosphere is enhanced by the gloomy themed lines, the inciting costumes and make-up, the hallucinatory dances, the traditional acoustic instruments and the inflections of group leader Mouldbreath’s voice.

Creepy Animation Night’s little sister, Trippy Animation Night, will also be part of the festival agenda this autumn. A new kitsch and erotic show is being prepared for the uninhibited.

Starting from 10.30 p.m. on October 3rd at Studio Cinema, Dutch curator and collector Michael Helmerhost will come back at Anim’est, bringing this time The Night Of Trippy Animation Volume 2, a fresh selection of short films generously sprinkled with Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.
He will present fragments of the darkest and most unconventional recesses of global cinematography: rare, archive films, that cannot be seen on the silver screen under other conditions.

Individual entrance tickets for Creepy Animation Night and Trippy Animation Night can be purchased online, on www.eventbook.ro,  and will be available for purchase at the cinemas in the screening evenings. The price of a ticket for Creepy Animation Night is 40 lei and includes access to the screening and concert. The price of a ticket for Trippy Animation Night is 20 lei. Minors access to these screenings is strictly forbidden.

The tenth edition of Anim’est International Animation Film Festival will take place between October 2nd and October 11th 2015 at Cinema Studio, Cinema Elvira Popescu and Re: Animation Hub.
