2011 Anim'est is ready to go!
The Sixth edition of the International Animation Film Festival Anim'est is buckled up! During 7-16 October 2011, Bucharest will be hosting projections of the most important animation film festival in Romania.
The official 2011 Anim'est opening takes place Friday, October 7, from 19:00 at Patria Cinema, with the national premiere projection of the first animated romanian feature produced in the last 20 years and one of the most anticipated native films of the year: Crulic - The Way Beyond (d. Anca Damian, Romania - Poland, 2011). Before the film’s projection, the audience can watch on the big screen the making of Animation Worksheep First Edition - animation film workshop organized by Anim'est in April - in the presence of students, but also trainers Dragoş Ştefan, Dan Panaitescu and Sergiu Negulici.
After the screening, the audience in the Opening Gala will be meeting with the filmmakers: director and producer, Anca Damian, the polish co-producer Arkadiusz Wojnarowski, protagonist Vlad Ivanov, animators Dan Panaitescu, Dragoş Ştefan, Raluca Popa, Roxana Benţu, Tuliu Olteanu, Andrei Saraliischi Vlad Paşcanu and editor Cătălin Cristuţiu.
Throughout the festival, Patria Cinema foyer will host an exhibition of the animators’ drawings for Crulic – The way beyond.
Anim'est projections start Friday, October 7, at ArCuB Hall, a brand new location of the festival. After the first short film screening of Mosaic section, scheduled for 19:00, at ArCuB will run, from 21:00, the nominated movies for 2011 Cartoon d'Or - the most important European award dedicated to animated short films, including the winner of the prestigious trophy, The Little Boy and the Beast (dir. Johannes Weiland & Uwe Heidschötter, Germany, 2009), 2011 Oscar-nominee The Gruffalo (d. Jakob Schuh, Max Lang, UK, 2009), Mobile (d. Verena Fels, Germany, 2010), selected in the Student Film Competition, Paths of Hate (d. Damian Nenow, Poland, 2010), winner of a Special Entries in the Official Competition of the International Animation Film Festival in Annecy, 2011 edition, The External World (Germany, 2010), directed by David O'Reilly, awarded the Audience Award at 2010 Anim’est for One Minute Fly, winner of dozens of awards around the world and selected in official competitions in Venice or Sundance International Film Festivals or Pivot (d. André Bergs, Netherlands, 2009), also selected at important festivals in the world.
Union Cinema Anim'est projections start off with two feature films in Mosaic Section: from 18:00, Rango brings Johnny Depp in one of the most discussed animated films of the year and, from 21:00 for the first time in Romania, A Cat in Paris / Une vie de chat (d. Alain Gagnol, Jean-Loup Felicioli, France - Belgium - Switzerland - the Netherlands, 2010), César Award and the European Film Academy Award nominee. The film tells the story of Dino, a cat that leads a double life. By day, he is living with Zoe, a girl whose mother, Jeanne, is a police officer and at night he is working with Nico, a big-hearted robber. Zoe has plunged herself into silence following her father's murder at the hands of gangster Costa. One night, Zoe decides to follow Dino. Along the way she overhears some criminals and discovers that her nanny is part of the gangsters' team.
The first day of the sixth Anim’est edition ends with The Great Rock'n'Roll Circus with Cliza, the festival’s opening party, scheduled from 23:00 in Control Club.
