Animate Projects – guest studio, films & talk
Animate works at the intersection of film, art and animation. Led by Abigail Addison and Gary Thomas, since 2007 they have produced high quality, experimental and engaging films for exhibition across broadcast, cinema, festival, gallery, public and digital platforms. Their awards include: Best Film at the Cutting Edge, British Animation Awards 2008; Best Experimental Film, Chicago Underground Film Festival 2011; Lumen Prize 2016 Moving Image Award; and a nomination for the BAFTA British Short Animation in 2019.
Animated Accounts
A selection of Animate Projects’ commissions that are inspired by real life experiences, told by real people or representative of real places. In this selection of animated shorts experience a multitude of voices, with scientists sharing their opinions on their research, the reflections of Chelsea Manning (formerly known as Bradley Manning) and the passions of an aspiring science fiction writer. Historic events are also brought to life in imaginative recreations, from the war wounds of artist Oskar Kokoschka to the lost film archives of Palestine to a Victorian amateur biologist’s pet wasp. Followed by a Q&A with three of the featured filmmakers: Elizabeth Hobbs, Ellie Land and Samantha Moore.
