Anim’est in Cluj Napoca, for the fifth consecutive year

The Anim’est International Animation Film Festival is soon going to reach Cluj-Napoca! Between October 28 and 30, at Victoria Cinema, Cluj’s audience will be able to enjoy a special projections program, approved for all audiences.

The traditional follow-up of the most important animation film festival in Romania brings to Cluj-Napoca some of the most outstanding captions from the sixth edition in Bucharest, such as those from Mosaic, Video & Advertising or Romanian Film Competition sections.

The Estonian Mati Kütt’s medium-length footage Sky Song is a movie that has all the chances in the world to affect the audience. A mailman’s adventure, who has to deliver a package on the Moon, a time travel through the people and their characters, thoughts and imagination. We are dealing with an original visualization of a mailman’s thoughts who, in spite of all problems and drawbacks, fulfills his duty.

Receiving the 2011 Anim’est Award for Best Romanian Film, also the Balkanimation section Trophy, The Scream (Romania, 2011) directed by Sebastian Cosor is a not-to-be-missed film. The Victoria Cinema’s audience will be able to see all endemic 20 animation short films that are competing for The Best Romanian Film Award, such as The Dog and a Little Bird and Travelling With My Thoughts Full of Hope by Adrian Băluță, The Fresco - The Curse of Dragulea, a short film by Ion Octavian Frecea, that had its world premiere at the Anima International Animation Film Festival in Bruxelles, Action Movie by Bogdan Mihăilescu, nominated last year for the “Young Hope” Gopo Award for Grand Café, It’s a Living by Cristina Zoica-Dumitru and Growing by Roxana Benţu, winner of The Best Animation Film Award at 2011 Anonimul Film Festival.

Two of the Bucharest audience’s favorites from the current Anim’est edition, Paprika and The Tokyo Godfathers, representative feature films of director Satoshi Kon, one of the “sacred monsters” of anime films, gone in August 2010 and who received homage from the 2011 Anim’est through a retrospective section, will also be screened within the Cluj-Napoca follow-up.

The youngsters will also be spoiled with the most entertaining captions from the Minimest section, children’s projections being part of this year’s Cluj-Napoca Anim’est program. During each of these 3 days, the young and very young audiences are coming to short and feature films, thematically and stylistically worldwide appraised and extremely diversified.

The screenings for children program starts on Friday, October 28th, 9am, with Ma petite planete cherie, a short films block awarded from Hexagon, brought forward by The French Cultural Centre. Other two short films (internationally awarded) programs, among which is this year’s Minimest Award winner – the Oscar nominee Gruffalo (d. Jakob Schuh, Max Lang, UK, 2009), will be opening the screening days in Cluj-Napoca Anim’est, starting at 9am.

Hop (d. Tim Hill, USA, 2011) – the story of E.B., the Easter Bunny’s heir, who decides to become a drummer, endangering the Easter Island’s existence; Une Vie de Chat (d. Alain Gagnol, Jean-Loup Felicioli, France – Belgium – Switzerland – Holland, 2010) or In The Attic (Czech Republic – Slovakia – Japan, 2009), directed by Jirí Barta, one of the Czech movie’s characters. These are the three films that will be projected especially for children and their parents at Victoria Cinema, every day of the festival, from 11am.

The Anim’est International Animation Film Festival, a member of the Pan-European Cartoon Network took place between October 7-16 at Bucharest and will have a follow-up between October 28-30 2011, at Victoria Cinema in Cluj-Napoca. The Festival is organized by the Este’n’est Association, with the support of the Cinematography National Centre and of Ogilvy’s.
