Benjamin Efrati - From music to film and back

Benjamin Efrati is a French media artist and electronic music producer. Since 2012, he has been composing soundtracks for films, animation shorts and series (Candide, Zsuzsanna Kreif, 2017; The New Kid, Arnaud Dezoteux, 2020; Amok, Balázs Turai, 2022; Inner Feels: Everything Flows, Carin Klonowski, 2023). His artworks and performances have been shown in France, Japan, Hungary and China. 

The workshop explores how short film directors can use music in original ways, and what type of  collaboration they can build with composers.

The case study is Amok, Annecy Cristal winning musical animated short directed by Balázs Turai in 2022. This masterclass is dedicated to the implementation of alternative workflows in the context of an increasingly automated film industry. While filmmaking as an artform deals with visual storytelling, dialog and voice acting as well as sound design, we'll look at the production value of tailor-made music in detail, and consider the real-life implications as well as the consequences of emerging multimedia workflows (music banks, AI generated soundtracks).
