Blockbusters in the Animash section

In addition to the competitive sections, Anim'est makes an anually parade of award-winning animations from festivals across the globe. It used to be called the Mosaic section and has a new name this year: Animash. Besides 8 feature films, of which 5 are going to premiere in Romania, this section provides another 34 short films that viewers can vote upon and the winner will receive the Audience Award, offered by Sony.

The Animash Features begin with ParaNorman, the opening film for 2012 Anim'est, and continues with other 7 titles. Arrugas, the Spanish production directed by Ignacio Ferreras, is a story about the friendship between two patients from a nursing home who discover the beauty of life only at its end. Le magasin des suicides, Frenchman Patrice Leconte's last film, screened for the first time at Cannes (out of competition) will delight black humor's fans. Besides this film, France has a strong presence, with another two titles: Le Tableau by Jean-François Paris Laguionie and Un monstre à Paris, an adventure of the early twentieth century, directed by Bibo Bergeron and produced by Luc Besson. Last, but not least, the Japanese animation Karigurashi no Arrietty by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, an animation made in Hayao Miyazaki's studio, and the U.S. studios' 3D blockbusters: Coraline (d. Henry Selick) or Dr. Seuss' The Lorax (d. Chris Renaud & Kyle Balda).

Animash Shorts brings to Bucharest titles from the Oscars, Annecy or Cannes! Once he loses his house in a storm, a man discovers a magic library in The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. The film by William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg, a mix of animation with miniatures and digital techniques, won an Oscar for the best animated short film. The British animation Head over Heels, directed by Tim Reckart, premiered at this year's student film competition (Cinefondation) at Cannes, telling the story of a marriage that has lost its charm for years. Awarded the grand prize at the prestigious Annecy animation festival, Tram by Michaela Pavlátová, is also included in Animash Shorts. The French-Czech co-production, made by hand drawings, creates a fantasy world in the monotonous life of a motorman.

The seventh edition of the Anim'est International Animation Film Festival will be held in Bucharest between 5-14 October 2012, at Patria Cinema, Studio Cinema and Club Control.
