Denmark – guest country at the 9th edition
After last year’s Swiss delights, Anim'est brings to Bucharest a relevant sample of Northern charm and know-how. The country invited to this year's edition of the festival is Denmark - the home of one of the most prestigious animation schools in the world, The Animation Workshop, whose films we screened in our 2011 edition.
Five feature films that illustrate the efforts of the Danish animation industry will be screened during the festival. Strings (Dane Anders Rønnow Klarlund, 2004) was co-produced by Denmark-Sweden-Norway-United Kingdom, a puppet animation which won numerous awards for innovative cinematography. Princess (Anders Morgenthaler, 2006) is a combination of live action and animation aimed at adult audiences; it also won several awards at international animation festivals and was nominated for "Robin", the Danish equivalent of the Oscars, for best Danish film. Terkel in Trouble (Kresten Vestbjerg Andersen, Thorbjørn Christoffersen, Stefan Fjeldmark, 2004) is a black comedy about a dysfunctional group of friends and relatives; it won Robert awards – the highest honour in Danish filmmaking, and at Animafest Zagreb and was nominated for the best animated feature film at Annecy.
Our younger audience will surely enjoy the two animations with a cheerful and innocent atmosphere that complement the Danish film selection: Marco Macaco (Jan Rahbek, 2012) and Otto is a Rhino (Kenneth Kainz, 2013).
Two prominent Danish guests will also be present at the ninth edition of the festival. One of them is Sarita Christensen, CEO of the Copenhagen Bombay company and the producer of famous feature films such asThe Great Bear - awarded at the Berlin Film Festival and screened at last year's Anim'esT edition, and Beyond Beyond selected at the Berlinale this year. She will be joined in Bucharest by Lana Tankosa Nikolic who holds a teaching position at the prestigious Animation Workshop in Viborg.
The Guest Country section of the programme, dedicated to Danish animation, received the support of the Denmark Embassy in Romania and of the Danish Film Institute.
The ninth edition of Anim'est will take place between October 3rd and 12th, at Studio Cinema, Elvira Popescu Cinema and at “Atelierul de Productie”.
