Minimest 2013

Every year, Anim'est comes with many surprises for children: 18 short films from around the world and four feature films await the young audience and in each of the two weekends of the festival, a series of interactive activities will take place at Studio Cinema. Short films are competing for the section Minimest Trophy.

Saturday, October 5, at 10:00 at Studio Cinema will be screened the first six short films in the Minimest section, starting with Miriam’s Kite (dir. Riho Unt, Estonia ), in which Miriam 's friends return to Anim'est with great romp, the Latvian film Cat in the Bag directed by Nils Skapans, about the friendship between children and animals, trust, abandonment, all with a happy ending, to Jingle and Bell’s Christmas Star (dir. Chel White, USA), animated by a little boy’s adventures accompanied by his furry friend, a husky named Bell.

At 14:00, at the Studio Cinema, you can attend the screening of the children animated series TOM and other short films (out of competition) of German director and animator, Andreas Hykade.

Sunday, October 6 at 10:00 at Studio Cinema will be screened the first out of four feature films in the Minimest selection, Moon Man, a France-Germany co-production directed by Stephan Schesch, about a bored Man in the Moon who decides to visit Earth.

The Minimest Competition continues from 12:00 at Studio Cinema, with Pilipka, a Belarusian story about a boy who tries to run away from the evil Baba Yaga, directed by Tatiana Koublitskaja, The Window (dir. Camille Müller, Switzerland), about a boy who loved reading stories so much that he believed that he was one of their heroes, or Spike 2 (dir. David Alaux & Eric Tosti, France), in which a polar bear, Tony, steals all of Santa's reindeers.

But the fun does not end with the weekend: from Monday, October 7 until Friday, October 11th, every night at 17:00 at the Hungarian Cultural Centre, 9 children aged 8 to 12 are invited to let their imagination loose and get carried away into the wonderland of animation at the workshop designed especially for them. Vasile Alboiu will be the trainer, a former jury member of the Video & Advertising section at 2008 Anim’est, graphics & visual artist, producer, production designer and director, who has developed, over time, a number of projects in the digital field and a significant portfolio in advertising. This year, Vasi will show the little ones the mysteries of animation, teaching them to create an animated short film using modelling clay.

In the second weekend of the festival, children are invited back to film: Saturday, October 12, at 10:00 at Studio Cinema, the Minimest competition continues with the last 6 short films in the selection. The little ones will meet with an African boy who receives a letter with an unusual gift in A Snowflake (dir. Natasha Chernishova, Russia), with Emilie, a curious girl who builds imaginative toys in Emilie (dir. Olivier Pesch, Luxembourg) or a good witch who invites all her friends on her broom’s tail in Room on a Broom, a British animation directed by Jan Lachauer & Max Lang.

At 12:00, Studio Cinema, the German feature film Raven the Little Rascal is scheduled, directed by Ute von Münchow-Pohl & Sandor Jesse: children will definitely like the little raven who loves spaghetti and his striped sock, but is likely to be scolded for being close to causing a major catastrophe …

On the festival’s last day, Sunday, October 13, children can still see two adorable feature films. From 10:00, The Smurfs 2 is unleashed on screen at Studio Cinema, once the evil wizard Gargamel creates mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties, hoping that they will help him harness the magical Smurf-essence...

From 12:00, at Studio Cinema, Rodencia and the Princess Tooth will be screened, a Peru-Argentina co-production directed by David Bisbano, winner of the Audience Award at BAFICI Argentina 2013 and selected at the Anima Mundi Brazil, an adventurous tale about a clumsy mouse called Edam and a beautiful, confident little girl mouse who start looking for the tooth of the Princess of Rodencia, in order to save their peaceful kingdom from an army of fierce rats.

A series of workshops organized by Creative Arts complete the program dedicated to children, such as creative recycling, in which the little ones will make figurines/ animals/ characters out of recycled materials, and painting on lanterns shaped as planets, stars and the whole solar system or the scenery workshop.

The ticket price for one projection is 6 lei and can be purchased both online, on eventbook.ro as well as at the cinema’s pay desk. Participation in the workshops is free.
