The Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Zeno Bogdănescu
For yet another year, Anim’est holds true to its mission of promoting and resuscitating Romanian animated film. This is why, aside from this year’s national competition bringing the best 14 Romanian made animated films to the festival, a Romanian animator will be handed the traditional Lifetime Achievement Award. This year, he is architect and director Zeno Bogdănescu, one of the most important animators from the legendary Animafilm studio. Graduate of the „Ion Mincu” Architecture Institute, Zeno Bogdănescu (born in 1955) is one of the most representative figures of the „’80s generation”.
He debuted together with Radu Igazsag, Olimpiu Bandalac and Nagy Lajos, with the film Caligrafie (Handwriting). His films benefit of different techniques, from the regular animated drawing technique (Încurcă lume) to animated graphic (Casa/The house), from pixilation (Trepte/Steps), to sand animation (Phoenix). Since 1995, Zeno Bogdănescu has been establishing his name exclusively in the field of architecture. He is currently the dean of the Architecture Faculty at „Ion Mincu” University in Bucharest. The Anim’est audience will be able to watch Zeno Bogdănescu’s most important short films on Monday, October 11th 2010, starting 5 p.m., at Scala Cinema. The Romanian director is one of the guests invited at the Round Table where the fate of Romanian animated film is to be debated on Thursday, October 14th, from 12 a.m., at Union Cinema.
