Romanian competition and Șuie Paparude, Wednesday at Anim'est
Wednesday, October 10, at the Studio Cinema, is the German animation day. Ulrich Wegenast, one of the most acclaimed animated film curators, has chosen Zeitgenossen, a selection of short films from 1988 until today (4pm). Among them are Balance (dir. Wolfgang and Christoph Lauenstein), awarded the Oscar for best short film in 1989 and The External World (dir. David O'Reilly), that won the prize for Best Short Film at 2011 Anim'est.
At 6pm, spectators will meet with Animals United - some cute animals who save the jungle from drought, and the film director, Reinhard Kloos, will tell the audience how to make a feature of international success.
At 8pm, at the Studio Cinema, Jean Pierre Lemouland, founder of one of the largest animation studios in France, JPL Films, will be the star of a special presentation during the festival.
Fat, bald and short, one of the 5 titles in the feature film competition comes to the Studio Cinema at 10pm. Still a virgin, middle aged, Antonio Farfán bears his co-workers ironies and let’s his own brother financially exploit him. The situation changes when the new boss, who resembles him greatly, treats him kindly. A personal development course proves that change is inevitable, but that you must learn to use it to your advantage.
Romanian competition begins at Patria Cinema. At 8.30pm, audience will be able to watch 21 autochthon titles, in the presence of filmmakers. Two of the animators who competed last year in this section return - Andra Berilă, with Cloudman and Török Tihamer with Playground. Codrin Iftodi, the already famous editor of Outrageously Disco competes with Mobilfonul / The Mobilphone, and The Little Dark by Victor Ionescu is present both in the Romanian and Balkanimation competitions.
A festival’s traditional section, the National Competition is designed to provide an overview of contemporary animated films produced in Romania. Anim’est’s mission to resuscitate and advertise the Romanian film animation is felt both by the growing number of films included from year to year and by Romanian animators’ performance (awards, participations at international festivals). In addition, three of the first Animation Worksheep students are present in this year’s Romanian competition: it's about Ana-Cătălina Dobrescu, Codrin Iftodi and Gabriela Mateescu.
At 10pm, Șuie Paparude will shake down Control Club. The band started in the autumn of 1993, in an alternative atmosphere - new wave, and is among the pioneers of electronic music in Romania. Currently, Șuie Paparude has seven albums, thousands of concerts in front of millions of fans and a cult band status for young audiences in Romania. During this concert, audience will be able to hear both hits and brand new songs from the upcoming album. Entrance fee is 15 RON.
