Shane Acker comes to The National University of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography (UNATC)
Shane Acker, 2011 Anim’est Guest Animator, comes to a meeting with NUTAC students. Monday, October 10, from 14:00 at Ileana Berlogea Hall, he is projecting his short film "9", Student Oscar winner and American Film Academy Award nominee for Best Animated Short Film.
Sunday, October 9, from 20:30 at Patria Cinema, he is bringing forward in Bucharest his first feature film, a Focus Features super-production, a Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov brand, 9 (USA, 2009), starring Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly, Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau.
Before turning to cinema, Shane Acker graduated Faculty of Architecture bachelor's and master's of the prestigious University of California from Los Angeles (UCLA). He, then, obtained, from the same university, a Master’s degree in Animation. Quickly became noted as one of the most promising filmmakers of his generation, reaching the visual effects team of the feature film Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003, d. Peter Jackson). International accreditation came with his short film 9, nominated in the 2006 Academy Awards for Best Short American Animated film, which had its world premiere in the Sundance Film Festival Competition, and had won the Oscar for Student Film and Best in Show Award at SIGGRAPH Electronic Theatre. Thus, he met Tim Burton, who has long wanted to make a feature film of the same name, developing the characters and the short film story. Recently, Shane has set up with Greg Little, Jack Mitchell and Brown Bag Studios in Dublin, Isopod - an animation production company in Los Angeles. He is currently directing the Isopod studio’s first production, Deep. In addition to his participation in consecrated events, Shane Acker is judging Short and Feature Film Competitions in 2011 Anim'est, alongside two other young animators-directors: Anna Solanas from Spain and Gerlando Infuso from Belgium.
