The Official Opening of Anim’est 2010

The official opening of Anim’est 2010 is happening at Patria Cinema, starting 7:00 p.m., marked by the event-screening of one of the most talked about and loved animated films of 2010, The Illusionist (dir. Sylvain Chomet, France- UK), recently nominated for the European Film Academy Award. Written by the director of the acclaimed Les Triplettes de Belleville based on a Jacques Tati screenplay, the feature film is a captivating, touching story about the artist’s condition in the world, its main character being old illusionist Tatischeff. Forced to roam the world looking for an audience that would appreciate his old-fashioned magic numbers, he runs into a young girl, also travelling, but just at the beginning of her journey through life. Her acting as a „woman” keeps her from realizing that the day when she will have to stop is fast on its way. The Illusionist had its preview screening at the Berlin Film Festival, and opened this year’s edition of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the most important animated film festival in the world.
