Toon Scripts

Toon Scripts is an annual scriptwriting competition launched by Animest in collaboration with PRO TV. It aims to discover and support new voices in Romanian animated television, which is a relatively unexplored area in the local film and TV industry. This initiative provides screenwriters with a platform to bring original animated series ideas to life. By encouraging fresh narratives and new storytelling methods, the competition seeks to increase the representation of animated series in Romania and to build a community of creators who want to push bounderies of the local TV content.

How the Competition Works:

Each year, screenwriters are invited to submit their concepts for an animated series. A selection process identifies finalists, who are then given the opportunity to further develop their projects. These finalists participate in a workshop led by Gabriela Iacob, Head of Scripted Content Development at PRO TV, along with other industry mentors. The workshop covers core aspects of TV and animation production, including storytelling and pitching skills, to help prepare the finalists for the final evaluation by an international jury.

The Prize:

The competition’s main prize is a contract to develop a pilot episode and a “show bible” that defines the series’ concept and structure. Each year’s winning project is announced at the Animest Awards Ceremony, giving it exposure within the animation community and the chance to move toward full production.
