Twenty short films entering the Romanian Film Competition at Anim’est 2011

This year’s competition will have a wide pallet of movie themes and styles under various titles by animators who’ve been in the festival previously - The Dog and a Little Bird and Traveling With My Thoughts Full of Hope, made by Adrian Băluță; Fresco – Dragulea’s Curse – Ion Octavian Frecea’s short film, which had its world premiere in the competition of the Anima International Animation Film Festival in Brusseles; Movie – directed by Bogdan Mihăilescu, nominated last year for the ”Rising Star” Gopo award for Grand Cafe; The Clinic by Török Tihamer; Euro potentia est, Tarnas Szocs’s latest short film, Are we Europeans!?, by Fekete Szabolcs; Wake Up by Florin Drăgoi; Visul ciulinului – by Nina Mihăilă; It’s a Living  by Cristinei Zoica-Dumitru and winner of Best Film at the Anonimul Animation Film Festival in 2011, Growing, by Roxana Bențu, one of the six members of the animation team on the feature film Crulic – The Path to Beyond.

 

Sebastian Cosor’s film, The Scream, a MediaPro Magic production also representing Romania in the Balkanimation competition; Klára Balázs, with the Dance; Ana Tomescu, the director of the short film Cromatic Evolution; Radu Gaciu, with IRA; Vlad Sandu, director of [klun]; Andra Berilă, director of Mr. gRAPE; Zoltani Levente, The Sphere; Octavian Ureche, with Voxelboy are the new names brought to the public’s attention by the Anim’est 2011 Romanian Competition. Dodo and Tic, directed by another first timer in the National Competition, Gabriel Vasiliu, is another outstanding ingredient of the festival, the pilot of a future Romanian animation series, and also the topic of a presentation at the Union Cinema, as part of the festival’s program. 

 

The winner of Best Romanian Film, offered by the Romanian Cultural Institute, will be chosen by a jury consisting of the winner of the Anim’est 2010 Romanian Competition, director Cecilia Felmeri; Canadian animator Steven Woloshen and critic, film historian and Polish animator Marcin Gizycki.
