Exceptional workshops at Anim'est 2010
On your marks, get set, draw! Two exceptional workshops will be offering animation fans the chance to discover and acknowledge the steps behind making an animated film. The fifth edition of Anim’est will be spoiling children in particular, not only through the special section dedicated to the them, Minimest, a program of daily screenings of some of the most beloved recent animated films and special events meant to stir up the imagination of the little ones, such an event being the traditional initiation into animation Anim’est workshop addressed entirely to those of ages between 8 and 12. Grownups need not feel neglected: the other initiation into animation workshop held by the festival- called Timing and Spacing in animation is dedicated to them.
During the five workshop days, as they learn how Jerry manages to be so quick and always get away from Tom, or how the Little Mermaid is always moving her body so gracefully, the children will actually become involved in the making of a short animated film in which they will have to describe the city of Bucharest.
In order to enter the workshop, they must use the adress of Estenest Asosciation- Drumul Taberei Boulevard , nr.92, Bl C7, Ap. 235, sector 6, Bucharest, for regular mail, or workshop@animest.ro , for emails with the title „Workshop for children”, and send by the 24th of September 2010 a drawing of the Anim’est Sheep as the central character and a short letter explaining, in their own words, why they like to draw. Parental assistance in sending the materials is welcome, but the drawings and smalls texts must be 100% the product of the imagination and skill of the small ones.
Ten of the most original and creative participants will take part in the five days workshop held between October 11-15, where they will learn how to make moving images based on their drawings. All drawings will be exhibited in the lobby of the Patria Cinema in Bucharest, throughout the entire period of the festival, and five of their authors will be selected by photographer and camera operator Adi Marineci to become part of the jury that will be watching the films in the Minimest section and will be giving out an award to the best of them.
The ones revealing the secrets of animation to the children will be Beine and Rémi Durin, from the Belgian studio L’Enclume, which, appart from the the short and feature film productions, specialize and are active workshops organizers for initiatiating children of all ages in animation. Altought they do not speak Romanian, the children will understand all their explanations with the help of the translators attending the workshop. The animated shorts produced by each of the children by the end of the workshop will be shown on the big screen at Patria Cinema during the Closing Gala on Saturday, October 16, 2010.

For them, Anim’est is prepairing the Timing and Spacing in animation workshop, guaranteeing to solve part of the enigmas of animation, harmoniously combining the theory and practice of actual animated short film making.
For four days, between October 11-14, the participants will be able to find out the meaning of such notions as timing and spacing, real weight and apparent weight and the way all of these coordinates influence movement in animation. At the end of each day, the 20 course attendants will be given practical test, helping the guest of this masterclass, graphic designer, animator and Romanian director Eliseu Valentin, establish the theoretical concepts they have presented.
Those wishing to enter the workshop must be over the age of 16 and write a 200 words letter of intent, explaining why they wish to attend this masterclass and learn more about the techniques of making animated film , then send it as an email with the title „Timing and spacing” at workshop@estenest.ro , before September 24.
