The animation miracle on October 5th

Animation fans no longer have to wait:: Friday, October 5, the 2012 Anim'est begins .

The organizers have prepared a special edition, which will not miss out on premieres, exhibitions, presentations and concerts until dawn at Control Club.

Ten intense days, 312 short films and 23 feature films. An experience for moviegoers, but also for those who just now discover the miracle of animation, a cinematic feast for adults, but for younger viewers as well.

One of the most anticipated animated films of the year, ParaNorman, will officially open the seventh edition of the festival, at Patria Cinema, 19:00. Directed by Sam Fell (The Tale Of Despereaux, Flushed Away) and Chris Butler, with a story written by the latter, the 3D stop-motion animated feature is a comedy thriller whose hero, an eleven year old boy with special powers, Norman Babcock, has to deal with zombies, ghosts, witches -and the worst- grown-ups, in his attempt of rescuing his small town from a centuries-old curse

At the Studio Cinema, 18:00, viewers will be able to see the best European short films of the year, Cartoon d'Or nominees and at 22:00 they will have their first encounter with German films from the section Guest Country: Germany .

The festival’s first day ends in Control Club, with a triple live act: Semiosis + Fjord, Karpov not Kasparov and Minus will be entertaining the people at 21:30.

Saturday, October 6, begins with Minimest: the youngest audience will enjoy, from 10:00, at Studio Cinema, friendly and educational films, decoupage and origami workshops.

Also at the Studio Cinema, Anim'est celebrates the Czech animator Jiri Trinka’s centenary, dubbed the Walt Disney of the East. At 14:00, the audience is invited to see a selection of short films, including the artists Ruka/ Mana freedom manifesto, and at 16:00, occurs A Midsummer Night's Dream’s screening, the first doll feature film in the world, awarded at Cannes and Venice. At 18:00, the audience will see the oldest animated feature that has been preserved until today, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, and at 20:00, viewers are expected to The Suicide Shop. Presented at 2012 Cannes, the film shows a city where life is so sad, that nobody feels like to live and the only thing that thrives is a store that sells poison and rope.

At Patria Cinema, from 18:30, two amnesic elderly gentlemen get bored, so they think of a mad plan in  Wrinkles and from 20:30, we start hunting ...  giant fleas in A monster in Paris.

The most uninhibited animation fans are expected at Patria, from 23:00, at The Night of The Animated Bad Taste. Bold videos since the beginning of cinema, cartoons, underground movies or commercial stereotypes, trailers, politically incorrect cartoons, Disney commercials, surrogate surrealism, television commercials long past expiry date.

And Sunday, October 7, the organizers have prepared a full schedule: after Minimest projections and events, at Studio Cinema, 14:00, the audience will be able to see the first post-war german animated feature film, Animals United, and from 8 o'clock, viewers are invited into The secret world of Arrietty, the story of a “small” family, who lives hidden under the floors of a house in a magical garden in the suburbs of Tokyo.

At Patria, 12:30, HFF Konrad Wolf, the most ancient and the most modern German film academy, presents, under the Guest School section, the most successful short films in recent years, covering a variety of animation techniques.

Those wishing to (re)view Coraline are expected to see the movie at Patria, starting 18:30 and at 20:30, the famous American studio specialized in stop-motion animation, LAIKA, will get a special presentation in the Guest Studio section. Mark Shapiro, Head Of Entertainment Brand Marketing at the American studio LAIKA will present a making-of about hundreds of handmade items for ParaNorman, he will give details, accompanied by images from the film’s lab and will bring to Bucharest some of the animated dolls.

Throughout the festival, two exhibitions can be admired :

The Alois Nebel comic book exhibition at the Patria Cinema’s foyer is dedicated to the impressively filmed story by Tomáš Luňák ("Alois Nebel"). The film is included in the feature film competition of the festival.

Jiri Trnka: Serving Imagination is a unique exhibition of drawings with archived photos, technical drawings and four dolls, a representative selection of the considerable amount of achievements by the Czech artist from various fields in which he got noticed.
